Bezirk-O-Mat
For years, the German Federal Centre for Political Education (Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung) has published its Wahl-O-Mat – a tool for federal and state elections to help voters decide which party best represents the things that matter to them. But the issues that matter most to many voters are the ones that affect them when they step outside their front door, and in Berlin, those are usually settled on the level of the individual boroughs (Bezirke).
We saw this lack of a more localised offering and decided to build our own Bezirk-O-Mat. We asked Berliners for the issues that they care about most in their borough and then presented the ten most pressing ones in each borough to all the parties running for election there, asking them to take a stance.
In the finished product, voters can see how their view on each of the ten issues compares to those of the political parties. The results are presented in a React-based interactive questionnaire that responds immediately to user input.
